About a month ago O got his first real pair of shoes and I have been dying to tell you all about them! But with the kids being off school and our house being filled with the lurgy,on and off throughout the summer holidays I am a playing catch up a little with my blog posts!
So here is the tale of O’s first shoes:
I have always preferred my babies to be barefoot, I feel that it’s important for those tiny little bones to be able to spread out flat on the floor while walking as constricting shoes not only hold the feet in the wrong position, which can harm their development, but they also make it harder for beginner walkers to balance themselves.
Obviously we all need something to keep our feet warm and safe from sharp objects outside so from about 6 months old O had little, soft leather shoes. They were nice and loose, didn’t squeeze his feet together and allowed him to stand on the floor outside if it was dry. They also protected his toes from the cold!
But when he finally started walking properly I still put off buying his first shoes for as long as possible! When he became more confident and it was obvious he wanted to be down walking outside more, I finally bit the bullet and bought these shoes:
Aren’t they just gorgeous? They are everything we have ever wanted in a shoe. Wide enough for his toes to spread out, have a thin, flexible sole so they mimic being barefoot, they are actually classed as ‘barefoot shoes’, and are made from good quality leather so I know they will stay looking good until he grows out of them! Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t cheap, but all our other children grew up with Clarkes shoes and these weren’t actually much more expensive.
They are Livie & Luca shoes and I have to be honest this company is so helpful. I didn’t think we would be able to get these ones as they didn’t have any in the size I though we needed so I’d originally ordered a different pair. But upon tweeting about the fact I had placed my order I got chatting to the lovely person who mans their twitter account and within ten minutes, and just in time to be collected by the courier, they were changing my order for the fox shoes in the next size up (I hadn’t allowed enough room for growth) to be delivered the next day. I couldn’t believe my luck!
Next time I know to ask them their advice BEFORE placing my order!!!!
Just to be clear, I haven’t been asked to, nor have I received anything to write this post. I just wanted you all to know my honest opinion on this lovely company!
Since getting these shoes O certainly has put them through their paces and apart from needing a damp cloth to get rid of the mud they have survived and even now, you would never even think they had been worn outside.
Among lots of other adventures together, they have:
As you can see O is getting around brilliantly outdoors, I won’t say he’s really found his feet, he has, but I won’t!
He still goes barefoot in and around the house, we all do. But at least he now has a really funky pair of first shoes to protect his little toes when we do go out 🙂
Where do you buy your kids first shoes from? Have you ever heard of barefoot shoes?
