Just before Christmas we were lucky enough to be sent a Teksta Robotic T-Rex to review.
LV was so excited when I handed him the parcel to open. I wish I’d had my camera handy as his face was a picture! He’s eight years old and is the perfect age to appreciate this fantastic toy, although as young as he is, O was highly impressed when the T-Rex chomped on the bone, sent it flying and then did a resounding burp!
The Teksta Robotic T-Rex is really quite a clever little Dino. He can understand what you say and will walk on command. He also follows hand gestures with the help of sensors. My favourite feature is that you can stroke the side of his face and he nuzzles into you and makes a purring noise like a kitten which, incidentally, is actually another variety in the Teksta range.
But the coolest thing in LV’s eyes is that you can control him with an android or ios tablet. He wasted no time in downloading the app to his android tablet. All you need to do to link them is to press the mode button on top of the T-Rex’s head until all the lights in his eyes turn on and your done. It also switches back to normal mode if it doesn’t get a signal from the app for one minute which is handy as little boys have a tendancy to forget to turn things off!
You do have to make sure the volume is turned to max and turn it so the speaker is within 18″ of T-Rex’s face. With five noisy (even when they are trying to be quiet) children and an excitable dog in the house we did have some cases of miscommunication so I think it would be better to use the app and the voice controls in a quiet room.
LV had great time making the T-Rex sing and dance. You can also fling food at him to chomp and teach him tricks. There are still some activities we haven’t tried yet like the piano, so there are still things for LV to discover. Which is great. Some toys are played with for a few hours and then left to gather dust at the bottom of the toy box but I can see the Teksta Robotic T-Rex being brought out over and over again for quite a while to come yet!
Even the big sisters couldn’t help but fall in love with this cute little Dinosaur and keep stealing him to have a play. Of course they are too old for such things though!
But he always finds his way back to his rightful owner.
We all love the Teskta Robotic T-Rex. He would probably be better trained if we lived in a quieter house but he is great fun none the less!
