So here we are, it’s January 1st 2015. Personally I’m welcoming in the new year and hoping with all my might that, if nothing else, it will be a much healthier year for our household than 2014 was. Seriously, I can’t cope with anyone else being ill. I have had three SOLID months of colds, diarrhoea, fevers, vomiting, swollen glands, eye infections, sore throats, ear infections, the list goes on… and on… and on!
I’m also hoping that the very start of this brand new year isn’t an indication of how the rest of it will pan out. I will admit that there was some good in as much as I had my first solid nights sleep in 18 months, thanks to my parents who babysat all of the kids last night.
But then there was the bad in that I woke up this morning with a massively bad back and a crick in my neck. I guess the fact that I have never had a full nights sleep on our less than a year old mattress has masked the fact that it is very cheap and nasty and needs replacing ASAP, but what do you expect when you pay £60 for a kingsize mattress?
The worse part though was that, due to our lie in, the dog had peed on my brand new Vans trainers and my laptop! which I had stupidly left on the living room floor (because there were no kids in the house). Luckily he aimed more at the trainers than the laptop and after a good old wipe down and a trip through the washing machine (obviously not the laptop!) they seem to be relatively unharmed, so far.
At most I guess all I can hope for is a mixed bag of a year!
Now January 1st will see people the world round making New Years Resolutions to try and steer the path of the coming year. But I’ve never really been one for New Years resolutions myself.
I mean I understand the concept that a new year gives everyone a fresh start, a specific day set in stone, to change something about themselves that they are not happy with. But this is exactly reason I have a problem with it.
The most common resolutions seem to be:
- Start going to the gym
- Eat healthier
- Stop smoking
- Stop drinking
- Lose weight
- Save money
- Be more positive
All of these things are designed to improve life. To make people feel better, healthier, wealthier. But why wait until January 1st to start? If you feel, in October, that you’ve finally had enough of your smoking addiction. Give up. In October!
If you’re concerned about your weight and want to start exercising and eating healthier do it. There and then! Your much more likely to succeed at something, or at least give yourself a better chance at succeeding, if you do it as soon as the whim hits you. Whatever time of the year it happens to be!
Don’t tell yourself that you’ll wait until the new year because your passion for the idea will have fizzled out by then and you’ll end up eating an entire packet of biscuits in front of the TV and using your new rowing machine as a footstool by Valentines Day.
So there may be no new year resolutions from me but there are a few things I have been working toward that I’d like to come to fruition at some point in the coming weeks and months. So maybe mine is a resolution to persevere with the following:
I would like to be more active and get O out of the house more when the kids are in school. The wet weather (and all the illnesses)has really put a dampener on us getting out and about and I’m feeling a bit cabin feverish at the moment!
I am trying my hardest not to shout at my kids. It may not seem like it most days, or any days, but I really am trying! The problem is that it’s REALLY hard when you have teenage girls who you yourself have brought up to be independent, opinionated, outspoken and extremely sarcastic (yeah, we didn’t think that one through!)
I would like to work more with brands and possibly even get an ambassadorship or sponsorship (anyone? No? Okay, I can wait)
I would like to break into the top 500 of the Tots 100 chart. I’m currently standing at 662, so it’s there, just out of my reach still, but there nonetheless!
Do you make new years resolutions? What have you resolved to achieve over the coming year? Or maybe you are working to toward a goal you have already set for yourself? I’d love to hear about them x
Oh, and as I write this I can hear Ff coughing her lungs up whilst struggling to sleep because of a headache. So much for a healthier start…
