If you recall my last post about our attic space renovations ( you can read it here if you missed it) we are currently at a standstill until our roof is replaced. I haven’t even been up there in weeks as there is simply nothing I can do and it was depressing just standing up there wishing it was done.
So instead I have been hitting Pinterest and Google trying to find some inspiration as to how I would like it to look. Here are some of the things I found while googling:
Firstly we have the colour I’m going for. The kids and I agreed a pale blue, like this ‘Ocean Ripple’ from Dulux. This would keep the room looking bright and airy and take away from the low ceiling.
But I’d like to give the room that bit of something extra, to make it special, so I was thinking of painting something onto the walls like the clouds.
I’d also love to invest in a star mural kit, like this one on ebay. They are virtually invisible during the day and yet come to life during the night.
If I can’t do the stars then I’d like to fill the room with pretty fairy lights like these lanterns. There are some really pretty sets, but I have to remember that I have boys using the room too and they might not appreciate sparkly, glowing flowers and fairies everywhere!
To add to the funky look of the room, and reduce the noise I want to scatter rugs all over the floor, like these Rag Rugs. I’d even like to try our hand at making some ourselves!
Of course with the low ceiling any seating needs to be on the floor, I love these round Indian cushions and also these HUGE beanbags from ebay.
I also saw this fab tutorial on pinterest to make a large floor cushion bed by simply using pillowcases. You can take a look at the tutorial here.
If you look at this photo you can see that there is space either side of the stairs:
Well due to the really low head space I’m afraid they are at risk of becoming clutter magnets. Places where we dump things that don’t really have a home, just so they are out of the way. So the plan is to have an ‘Xbox Station’ on the right hand side, because it’s wider. Then on the left I’d like to make a cozy little reading nook. A bit like this one here.
I will talk about it more in another post but I have also kindly been given one of these by Brainstorm Toys:
It’s a remote controlled illuminated moon that runs through the cycles of the moon. This was actually the inspiration behind the idea for a star mural and my plan is to have it on the wall right above the stairs in the point of the roof.
If you would like to see the rest of what I’ve collected together for inspiration, why not check out my Pinterest board here. There are lots of great ideas for using what otherwise would be dusty old storage space!
So what do you think of my plans for our attic space so far? Is there anything you would add?
