Do your kids love minions? Mine have a
major slight obsession with the little yellow creatures, at 12 years old LM’s favourite outfit is top to bottom minions. It must run in the family though as even my brother has a minions t-shirt!
If you do have minions mad little people you will no doubt have been pestered to take them to see the new movie that is currently out in the cinemas. Although the girls went to see it themselves, I’m afraid I wasn’t brave enough to take O to the pictures yet (he has only just turned two so there’s no way he was going to sit long enough to watch the entire thing!) So, much to their chagrin, the younger contingent are going to have to wait until the DVD comes out. A fact which they are obviously less than impressed with!
You can imagine then that I jumped at the chance to review some minions toys, which I hoped would soften the blow a bit and at least keep them occupied, plus they arrived with sweeties which is always a winner!
We were sent a set of minions top trumps as well as a Crayola minions colour alive set.
Top Trumps have always been a firm favourite in our house and adding minions into the mix just made it even better. The cards not only have the characters, but also the events that happen in the film too. which is a sneaky preview for mine who haven’t watched them film yet.
As is usual in Top Trumps, each card has a list of ratings, the Minions pack are rated with cleverness, bravery, leadership, mischievous and a final top trumps rating.
They have had hours of fun with the game and even took them along to play with their cousins on a visit to Nain and Taid’s house. The fact that they come in a hard case is really handy for travelling.
The Crayola colour Alive book also went down a treat, who doesn’t love a bit of colouring in? What is great about this book is that you can download the Colour Alive app from the App Store/Play Store and use it to literally make the pages come alive! Here is a little video I put together to show you a bit of what it does:
As you can see there are two ways to play, there are special effects that basically give each colour it’s own animation, for example, the yellow pen is labelled banana and the animation is sparkly bananas.
Then there is also the 4D option which lets you use your phone/tablet to look all around the minion you just coloured in which is now all plump and standing up on your page!
I will say that I could barely even get it to load on my Iphone 4 so I had to use the app on Lee’s Iphone 6. Then the page which had the background already coloured in was a bit dodgy and didn’t want to play so it seems like it only works properly if you only colour in the minion. Or maybe the vampire page just doesn’t like me!
But even with that, the kids thoroughly enjoyed using it, it’s just a shame for them that Lee takes his phone when he goes out to work. We haven’t got round to trying the app on any of the Android devices we own yet so hopefully one of them will work too. My favourite part of the colouring book is that there is a little pocket on the front cover which holds all the pens safe so I
theoretically don’t end up with them all over the floor!
Has your house been overtaken with everything minions too?
