Life: The good, the bad and the ugly bits!

Review and Giveaway ~ Win one of two Mokuru Fidget Toys!

Fidget toys really are the ‘in thing’ this year and if your house is anything like mine you have spinners of all shapes and sizes, and with lots of broken bits, coming out of your ears! But move over fidget spinner, there’s a new kid on the block!Matcha Mokuru fidget spinner

When I was first offered to review the Mokuru fidget toy I was a bit dubious it would be a hit with my kids. After all, it is basically just a big colourful piece of wood! But then we looked at some videos on YouTube and learnt about all the tricks you can do, they were all very excited and couldn’t wait to try it out!

What I love about the Mokuru fidget toy is that it is a very simple design, so no possibility of bits breaking off or fingers getting stuck in holes etc. And after watching the videos and seeing the kids play with it there are obviously endless possibilities in its use. The kids love trying out new tricks, like getting it to rollend ways between each other, or getting it to bounce and land on it’s tip. Personally I find it quite relaxing just spinning it in circles when I’m on the phone.

Mokuru is currently available in the following colours:Mokuru colour choices

We are still learning to do even the simplest of tricks here, but this video shows you plenty of tricks from beginners level right through to games you can play with friends! But there are no rules to Mokuru, you can play with it in as a simple or creative way as you wish!

Mokuru is available in Smyths stores as well as on Amazon but am really pleased to say that not one, but two of you will have the chance to try out a Mokuru fidget toy for yourselves just by entering the giveaway below. Here are the rules for entering:

Stuffed Owl ~ Hillarys craft competition

I’ve never hidden the fact that sewing isn’t my strong point. So when I was asked by Hillarys if I wanted to enter their craft competition, to create something out of 1 meter of their blinds fabric, I was initially hesitant. But I like to challenge myself, so I figured what the heck? What’s the worst that can happen?

Well, after weeks of pondering what to do with my Safi Turquoise fabric, I finally managed to make this little feller:

owl

Not bad if I say so myself! Okay, so he isn’t perfect but I think his higgledy piggledyness just adds to his charm. The fact that he matches the new colour scheme in the hall and stairs is purely coincidental but I think he looks quite sweet perched on the step.

I didn’t follow a pattern as such, I simply drew the shape I wanted onto some paper. Then I cut the eyes, feet, beak and mouth out of felt and stitched them to the front panel along with the wings before sewing him together. I filled him up with the stuffing from an old pillow that was no longer being used.

It was actually a lot more simple to make than I first expected, although I did have a few issues with the machine getting knotted up, but they have a tendency to hate me so it’s lucky to actually to still be alive. Seriously, other sewing machines have not been so lucky in the past.

oops!

O is very taken with the owl too. The first time he saw it he kept kissing him over and over. I think I may be making him one of his very own soon!

If you would like to see some of the other entries in the competition you should check out Hillarys board on Pinterest. I have had a look through them all and I have to say there are some fantastic entries!

#SHowUsYourMess with Bosch Athlet

I was recently challenged by Bosch Athlet to show you how much mess our family can make while having some creative fun!

Now with the builders in we are already in chaos, with plaster dust and stuff just everywhere, so what was a bit more mess to add to the equation?

We were sent a “create your own Christmas cracker” kit. The instructions were simple, but when you have all the pieces laid out in front of you it’s all quite self explanatory. Which is lucky because O had claimed them as his own and hidden them behind the sofa at one point!

Giveaway: A pamper hamper, just for mum!

The run up to Christmas is a wonderfully exciting time for children and parents alike. It’s filled with festive crafts and songs, food and films. Seeing the look of joy on our little ones faces on Christmas morning as the rip open the paper on the coveted toys that managed to not only make it onto their Christmas list but us parents Santa was lucky enough to get a hold of (even if it did involve a scrimmage for the last one on the shelf!)

Luckily for our children they don’t see the stresses that often accompany the fun of Christmas. They don’t see the money worries, the traipsing through town in the rain looking like a windswept, drowned rat. The driving around to 15 different Argos stores across 3 counties because you heard on the school gates grapevine that they have a few of the latest doll/game/remote control thingamajig only to see the last one being carried out just as you arrive. The stress that the most important ‘big gift’ that was ordered mid November still hasn’t arrived 3 days before the big day!

Knowing I’m not the only one who doesn’t even think about themselves from at least October as we are in ‘Mission: Christmas’ mode, I thought I would have a little giveaway to give one of you lovely people the chance to pamper yourself a little. With the help from a few great companies I have put together a little pampering hamper worth over £50! (Apologies, the photo’s really don’t do the products justice!)

The House of Perpetual Mess!

In the 13 years since we started having kids I have come to accept that my house is not going to look anywhere near perfect, or even just tidy, until they have all left home. But saying that if the state of my own bedroom as a child is anything to go by, possibly not even then!

Between the seven of us, the masses of ‘stuff’ that we own, alongside our generally untidy habits mess is completely unavoidable. I hold my hand up here to say that I have never been the best of housewives, I’d much rather play with the kids and well, make messes, than do the dishes or put away clothes!

When the older four are in school I can get our living room into a vaguely tidy space but as soon as they walk though the door we have school bags and shoes strewn all over the place before they even get in a hello!

More often than not, come tea time my beautiful dining table:

Isn’t it so pretty, and clean!?!
