Last year was my first full year of blogging. It contained many other firsts and plenty of achievements, like reaching 100 posts, gaining 1000 Twitter followers (almost 2000), attending my first blogging event and also blogging conference.
My first BIG Thing was Blogfest in November. I had a wonderful, yet slightly overwhelming, day among many, many wonderful bloggers. It was lovely to be amidst a myriad of other like minded individuals who also enjoy spending their time tapping away at a computer day in, day out, even if their area of sharing is different to my own. There’s something special about being with people who ‘get’ you and who don’t find it bizarre that your happy to share your life, the good bits and the bad, with the whole world and his uncle.
The one image that will forever be marked in my mind is that of riding down the escalator and seeing a sea of faces below me. My first thought was ‘Oh my god, what the hell have I got myself into!’. But one of the biggest problems I came across was that, apart from a very few faces, I had absolutely no idea who anybody was! I really am rubbish with putting names to faces at the best of times, so the fact I only know people by their Twitter handle or their blog names and headers really threw a spanner into the works!
Don’t get me wrong, we all had lanyards with our name and blog name on but they never seemed to stay the right way around and constantly staring at everyone’s midriff doesn’t necessarily make for the best first impressions, instead you are likely to get a few odd looks, even though most people were doing the exactly the same thing!
One of the events that I chickened out of attending last year was Britmums Live. I was adamant I wasn’t ready. I didn’t want or need to go. I couldn’t justify the costs, even though Lee had told me to go on many occasions. Yet when June rolled around all I could see on my twitter feed was tweets and blogposts about who was meeting who on what train, which hotels people were staying at and of course what everyone was wearing!
I was a more than a little bit gutted.
So to make sure I didn’t talk myself out of it again I ordered my tickets for this years conference the very day they went on sale!
This year my life may have just been made a little easier with the help of Simoney Badges. Just before Christmas a few of us bloggers who are attending Britmums 2015 were offered personalised badges. Here’s mine:
As you can see it has my name on but it also matches my blog design, so anyone can glance at it quickly and if they know my blog, will know exactly who I am! Now isn’t that a great idea? I’m now keeping my fingers crossed that there are a lot of others wearing their badges so at least have a fighting chance of recognising someone, anyone!
I can’t be the only one who struggles putting names to faces. Can I? Are you going to Britmums Live this year? Please tell me you have a badge too!?!
***Disclaimer: I was given this badge for the purposes of this post but all thoughts and opinions are my own***
